I used to think that creativity was something that you had to make time for after all your other work was done. Now I know I had that wrong. Through creativity we find the work that we are meant to do. But even more, I believe that an act of creation — art, music, photography, craft — is the only real way to counteract the despair, hate, and destruction in this world. It doesn’t have to be beautiful. It doesn’t have to be good. It just has to be true. And if it also gives you a way to pay the rent and put food on the table, well, that’s good, too.
